The National Population Commission (NPC) and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) have entered into a partnership to support the upcoming biometric Population and Housing Census. The partnership was sealed during a meeting between the Chairman of NPC, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, and the Director-General of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju, at the NPC Headquarters in Abuja.
The two agencies discussed collaborative opportunities in geospatial data integration, population mapping, and leveraging satellite technologies to support the census. Hon. Kwarra emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that the NPC cannot conduct the census alone and relies on the support of agencies like NASRDA to ensure a successful and reliable census.
Dr. Adepoju pledged NASRDA’s support for the NPC, highlighting the necessity of using up-to-date satellite imagery for the census. He revealed that NASRDA is prepared to provide recent high-resolution imagery to ensure accuracy in the exercise.
The partnership marks a significant step towards a collaborative effort in ensuring the success of the challenges and prospects of the forthcoming census.
