Anam, 13th September 2025 – Senator Dr. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District, and Hon. Peter Aniekwe, Member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, have jointly called for urgent Federal Government intervention on the Otuocha–Umueze Anam–Nzam–Ibaji Federal Road.
During an inspection visit on Saturday, the lawmakers decried the deplorable state of the project, which for years has subjected farmers and rural dwellers to untold hardship. Hon. Aniekwe, who was away on national assignment, was ably represented by Chief Sylvester Nnalue (Ugonabo Anam), Labour Party Chairman, Anambra West.
Senator Nwoye, visibly disturbed by the condition of the road, lamented:
“I never knew this road was as bad as this. Frankly speaking, something very urgent must be done. I will inform the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator (Engr.) David Umahi, because this road deserves priority attention to lessen the burden of farmers in Anambra West.”
Rep. Aniekwe, through his representative, reaffirmed their joint determination to press for immediate palliative measures. He stressed that their efforts would remain relentless until the Federal Government decisively responds to the plight of their constituents.
Meanwhile, the project manager of Niger Cat Construction Company, handling the contract, explained that the project is still in its first phase, which covers the construction of three bridges. The second phase, he added, will include two more bridges and the road itself.
Both lawmakers, however, vowed not to relent in their advocacy, insisting that while the bridges are being constructed, the road must also receive urgent palliative attention to restore access to markets and farmlands — the economic lifeline of Anambra West.
