The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has approved a $100 million receivables discounting facility for Bahamas Striping Group of Companies Ltd to support road construction and rehabilitation projects across the Bahamas.
The financing, announced in Nassau on February 11, 2026, is expected to fund the rehabilitation and construction of more than 320 kilometres of road infrastructure across several islands, in a move aimed at improving transport connectivity and strengthening economic activity.
The facility forms part of a broader framework agreement signed between Afreximbank and the Government of the Bahamas during the 48th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community held in Barbados in 2025. The programme is designed to modernize critical infrastructure, improve road safety, and support the country’s tourism and trade sectors.
Under the arrangement, the financing is backed by government-awarded contracts, enabling Bahamas Striping Group to accelerate project delivery and access advance funding for certified works. The projects include road paving, line striping, maintenance, and safety improvement measures across key transport corridors.
Afreximbank’s Acting Managing Director for the Caribbean Community, Okechukwu Ihejirika, said the facility reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting infrastructure development among its partner countries and strengthening economic cooperation across regions.
Executive Chairman of Bahamas Striping Group, Dominic Sturrup, said the funding will enhance the company’s capacity to execute major infrastructure projects, support subcontractors, and expand its operational scope.
The company’s President, Atario Mitchell, noted that the financing will enable smoother project execution, timely procurement of materials, and improved operational stability, while supporting employment and business growth.
The road infrastructure programme is expected to boost economic productivity, enhance tourism access, create jobs, and improve mobility across the island nation.
Bahamas Striping Group of Companies Ltd is a local infrastructure firm established in 2010. The company has completed more than 200 projects across Nassau, Exuma, and Eleuthera, and employs over 300 people, including subcontractors, contributing significantly to infrastructure development in the Bahamas.
