President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Nigerian women as the world marks the 2026 International Women’s Day, praising their resilience, sacrifices and vital role in shaping families and society.
Akpabio said Nigerian women remain pillars of strength whose contributions to nation building and family development deserve continuous recognition and support.
According to a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President commended women across the country for their enduring commitment to nurturing families and contributing meaningfully to national progress.
He described mothers as one of the greatest blessings given to humanity, noting that his personal journey in life stands as a testament to the dedication and sacrifices of women.
Akpabio said he remains deeply grateful for the love, care and compassion he received from his mother, who devoted herself to raising him to become what he is today.
He said women wake up daily to make the world a better place through their hard work, resilience and devotion to family and community, stressing that such efforts should never go unnoticed.
The Senate President also expressed appreciation for the many roles women play in raising children, supporting their families and strengthening societies, adding that their strength and determination continue to inspire progress across the nation.
Akpabio further assured that the National Assembly remains committed to advancing policies and legislative actions that support women, particularly in promoting their participation in economic activities and political leadership.
He noted that in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, Give and Gain, the legislature will continue to encourage robust investment in women in order to unlock their full potential in national development.
The Senate President, on behalf of his family, constituents and the 10th National Assembly, congratulated Nigerian women and wished them a peaceful and fulfilling celebration, expressing hope that their sacrifices and efforts would always be rewarded.
International Women’s Day is observed globally every March 8 to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also drawing attention to the need for gender equality and greater opportunities for women and girls across the world.
