The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled March 19 and 20, 2026, for the screening of aspirants seeking to contest positions at its forthcoming national convention, as the ruling party moves closer to a major internal reorganisation.
The screening exercise will involve aspirants vying for various offices at both zonal and national levels. It is part of a structured timetable designed to guide activities leading to the convention, which is expected to reshape the party’s leadership.
Party officials are expected to inaugurate the screening and appeals committees on March 18, a day before the exercise begins. The committees will oversee the verification of credentials and ensure that aspirants meet constitutional requirements and established guidelines.
The process follows the sale and submission of nomination forms, which opened the contest to party members across the country seeking to occupy key leadership positions. The screening stage is considered critical in narrowing the field and setting the stage for competitive contests at the convention.
As part of the build-up, the party has also put in place committees to coordinate various aspects of the convention, including logistics, accreditation, and dispute resolution, in an effort to maintain order and credibility throughout the exercise.
The national convention is scheduled for the last week of March, where members of the National Working Committee and other principal officers of the party will be elected.
The outcome of the convention is expected to influence the party’s internal balance and direction as it prepares for future electoral contests.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), formed in 2013 following a merger of opposition parties, has remained Nigeria’s ruling party since 2015 and continues to play a central role in the country’s political landscape.
