Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the claim by Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi declaring herself the National Chairperson of the party, describing the development as baseless and inconsistent with its constitutional provisions.
Danladi had, in a press statement released on Wednesday, announced herself as the authentic leader of the party and disclosed plans to approach the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge what she termed an illegitimate structure currently managing its affairs.
Reacting to the development, the party rejected her assertion, maintaining that its leadership remains intact and guided by established procedures as provided in its constitution. Party officials insisted that there is a clear process for leadership emergence, noting that Danladi’s claim does not follow any recognised internal mechanism.
The party further stressed that no vacuum exists in its national leadership and reaffirmed confidence in its current structure, urging members and the public to disregard the declaration.
Danladi, however, maintained that her action is aimed at restoring due process within the party, arguing that internal inconsistencies and disputes have weakened its organisational integrity. She insisted that her claim is rooted in legality and would be tested in court.
The development reflects underlying tensions within the APC, which has in recent times witnessed disagreements linked to leadership control and internal alignments across various levels of the party.
The APC, formed in 2013 following a merger of opposition blocs, has remained Nigeria’s dominant political platform since assuming power in 2015, though it continues to grapple with periodic internal disputes driven by contests over authority and direction.
