Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction and killing of a Pentecostal bishop based in Asaba, Delta State.
The suspects were reportedly arrested in Onitsha while attempting to sell the late cleric’s vehicle. The vehicle was recovered by police operatives during the operation.
According to information from the command, the bishop was allegedly abducted and killed in Asaba on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, before the suspects fled the area with his car.
Police sources disclosed that investigations have also pointed to possible insider involvement in the crime, as the bishop’s driver has been implicated and is currently being questioned over his alleged role in the kidnapping operation.
The incident has stirred concern among residents and members of the church community both in Delta and Anambra states, especially following reports that the suspects moved the stolen vehicle across state lines in an attempt to dispose of it.
Security operatives were said to have acted on intelligence which led to the arrest of the suspects in Onitsha. During the operation, the vehicle belonging to the late bishop was recovered before it could be sold.
The command said efforts are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify other persons connected with the crime.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State reassured residents that the command remains committed to proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling violent crimes across the state. He added that the police would continue working closely with sister security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property.
