Aspirant for the Awka North and South House of Representatives seat under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Augustine Azubuike Ekwezor, has officially declared his intention to contest the position, saying the constituency deserves quality and purposeful representation.
Ekwezor, popularly known as Ide Umuawulu, made the declaration during an interactive session with Anambra Patriot in Awka, where he said his decision to seek the mandate of the people was not driven by personal ambition alone, but by a sincere desire to serve with integrity, inclusiveness and accountable leadership.
He stated that Awka North and South Federal Constituency had continued to lag behind due to poor representation and lack of capacity by those entrusted with the mandate of the people.
“Awka North and South need a good representative because the constituency has been lagging behind,” he stated.
Ekwezor further stressed that his administration would be anchored on a four-point agenda centred on agriculture, security, robust housing and infrastructure development, adding that his mission was to harmonize the constituency and restore confidence in leadership.
He maintained that he remained highly accessible to the people, insisting that his doors would always remain open to constituents.
The APGA aspirant pleaded with the people of Awka North and South to support his ambition based on credibility, fairness, accountability and his record of community service over the years.
He further stated that he had continued to support people through various empowerment initiatives, including youth support programmes, provision of buses and assistance in housing projects.
“I have been supportive to people, building houses and empowering youths with buses. With my contacts, I will represent my people well,” he stated.
Ekwezor also promised to build a befitting office accommodation for Anambra Patriot, while commending the organisation for promoting accountability, fairness and justice in governance.
Chairman of Anambra Patriot, Damian Elekwechi, said the organisation remained committed to good governance, accountability and fairness.
Also speaking, the Convener of the event and Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Okey, stated that the essence of the platform was to ensure accountability in public office and compel political leaders to fulfil promises made to the people.
He stressed that politicians and local government officials must remain duty-bound to deliver on their commitments to the electorate.
