The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has assured Nigerians that deliberate regulatory reforms and fresh investments by operators would soon improve telecommunications services across the country amid rising public complaints over poor network quality.
The commission gave the assurance following increasing concerns by subscribers over persistent dropped calls, unstable internet connectivity, slow data speeds and other service disruptions affecting businesses and daily communication activities.
According to a statement by the Head of Public Affairs at NCC, Nnenna Ukoha, the commission acknowledged the frustrations being experienced by consumers and stressed that telecommunications operators were under obligation to improve service quality in line with existing regulatory standards.
The NCC further stated that effective implementation of the updated Quality of Service Regulations had already commenced, with telecom operators expected to comply with clearly defined performance benchmarks or face regulatory sanctions where necessary.
It further stressed that telecommunications services remain critical to economic activities, education, healthcare delivery, security communication and social interaction, noting that Nigerians deserve reliable and efficient network services irrespective of location.
The commission explained that part of the ongoing interventions included increased monitoring of operators’ performance, enforcement of compliance measures and encouragement of additional investments in infrastructure to reduce congestion and improve connectivity nationwide.
The NCC also noted that improvements had already been recorded in some operational areas, particularly in power stability at telecom base stations and gradual expansion of network infrastructure in underserved locations.
The NCC was established to regulate activities in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector and ensure that service providers operate within approved standards while protecting the interests of subscribers across the country.
