President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, marking a leadership transition in the nation’s tertiary admission examination body.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that Aina will assume office upon the completion of the tenure of the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, on July 31, 2026.
Professor Aina, a native of Ondo State, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with strong academic and professional grounding in digital systems, examination technologies and institutional administration. He is the son of Emeritus Professor Oluremi Raphael Aina, current Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The incoming Registrar studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before proceeding to Loughborough University where he obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing. He has also undergone advanced leadership training at the Lagos Business School.
Over the years, he has built a reputation within academic circles for research and administrative work in educational technology, cyber security and systems engineering, with experience that aligns with ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s examination and admissions framework.
Professor Oloyede, who he will succeed, was first appointed in 2016 and later reappointed for a second term.
