The historic Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha, one of Anambra State’s oldest and most prestigious institutions with a proud legacy of producing distinguished professionals, academics, public servants and business leaders, has received a major facelift through the intervention of the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr Tony Nwoye.
The comprehensive renovation has restored the physical outlook of the iconic institution, providing students and teachers with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning while preserving the rich heritage of a school that has shaped generations of Nigerians.
The project, which was recently unveiled amidst jubilation by students, teachers, parents, old students, community leaders and political associates, is expected to significantly improve the quality of the learning environment and reinforce the school’s status as one of the leading public secondary schools in Anambra State.
Senator Nwoye, who is also the frontline candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Anambra North Senatorial District, former Anambra State governorship candidate and former State Chairman of the ruling party, described education as the bedrock of sustainable development, stressing that no meaningful society can thrive without investing in its future generations.
“Our schools deserve the best. When we provide our children with a safe, decent and inspiring environment to learn, we are investing in the future of our communities, our state and our nation. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an atmosphere that encourages excellence, innovation and discipline,” the senator said.
He noted that the rehabilitation of Modebe Memorial Secondary School forms part of his broader commitment to improving public educational infrastructure across Anambra North Senatorial District.
Senator Nwoye later moved with his entourage to St. Joseph Primary School, Atani, in Ogbaru Local Government Area, where he commissioned another educational intervention involving the renovation of a block of six classrooms and an office. The project, he said, further demonstrates his resolve to improve learning facilities in communities across the senatorial district.
According to him, quality representation goes beyond sponsoring bills and participating in legislative debates, adding that it must also translate into tangible projects that directly improve the lives of the people.
“Representation must be measured by visible impact. Our schools deserve attention because they are producing the leaders of tomorrow. We will continue to complement government’s efforts by providing infrastructure that will uplift our educational institutions and improve the quality of learning across our communities,” he added.
The lawmaker assured constituents that education would remain one of the major pillars of his legislative agenda, promising to sustain interventions aimed at improving educational facilities and expanding access to quality learning across the district.
Teachers and members of the school management commended Senator Nwoye for the intervention, describing the renovation as timely and impactful. They noted that the upgraded facilities would boost staff morale, improve students’ academic experience and restore the aesthetic appeal of the institution.
Parents, old students and community leaders also lauded the senator for what they described as a thoughtful and people-centred intervention, expressing optimism that the improved infrastructure would inspire greater academic excellence and preserve the enduring legacy of the historic school.
Modebe Memorial Secondary School occupies a prominent place in Anambra State’s educational history, having produced many accomplished Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in public service, academia, business, the professions and other fields of human endeavour.
The commissioning of the projects drew commendation from students, teachers and other stakeholders, who described the interventions as timely and urged Senator Nwoye to sustain efforts aimed at improving educational infrastructure across Anambra North Senatorial District.
