CCXI Affirms Afreximbank’s AAA Rating For Second Consecutive Year

By George Ozalla

China Chengxin International Credit Rating Co., Ltd. (CCXI) has affirmed the African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) AAA issuer credit rating with a Stable outlook for the second consecutive year.

The latest rating affirmation underscores the financial strength and strategic importance of the pan-African multilateral financial institution, while indicating continued confidence in its ability to maintain its credit standing over the medium term.

According to a statement issued by Afreximbank on Friday, the affirmation was contained in CCXI’s 2026 Credit Rating Report for the Bank, which was released in Beijing on July 30, 2026.

CCXI, in the report, said it expects Afreximbank’s credit rating to remain stable over the next 12 to 18 months.

The Stable outlook provides an indication that the rating agency does not currently anticipate a significant change in Afreximbank’s credit profile within the period covered by its assessment.

The affirmation also comes against the backdrop of Afreximbank’s expanding role in supporting African trade and economic development. The Bank has continued to position itself as a key financial institution supporting trade across the continent and strengthening economic integration among African countries.

The AAA issuer credit rating is significant for Afreximbank because credit ratings are closely watched by investors, financial institutions and other stakeholders in assessing the creditworthiness and financial standing of institutions that raise funds in international markets.

The continued AAA rating therefore provides an important indication of CCXI’s assessment of Afreximbank’s financial position and its strategic relevance within the African and international financial system.

The Bank’s rating has remained under review as part of CCXI’s assessment of its overall credit profile. By maintaining the AAA rating with a Stable outlook for the second consecutive year, CCXI has indicated that it expects the Bank’s credit position to remain broadly stable over the next 12 to 18 months.

Afreximbank, headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, is a multilateral financial institution established to finance and promote intra-African and international trade. Its activities include providing financing and other forms of support designed to facilitate trade, investment and economic development across African countries.

The latest affirmation by CCXI adds to the Bank’s credit credentials as it continues to play a major role in financing trade and supporting economic activity across the continent.

The 2026 rating report was released on July 30 in Beijing, while Afreximbank announced the affirmation on August 21, 2026.
