President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, as Director General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Yari’s appointment is part of the leadership structure being put in place by the APC as the ruling party begins preparations for the presidential election, with the campaign council bringing together the party’s national leadership, governors, legislators and other prominent political figures.
President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is Vice Chairman I. The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is Vice Chairman II.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary of the council.
The council also has three Deputy Directors General, namely Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Akpabio will serve as Deputy Director General, South, while Abbas will take responsibility as Deputy Director General, North. Buni will serve as Deputy Director General, Administration and Operations.
A five member advisory council has also been constituted, with former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, as Chairman.
Other members of the advisory council are former Ogun State Governor and veteran journalist, Chief Segun Osoba; former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
The campaign council further includes senior APC leaders and political office holders who will be assigned responsibilities across various committees and directorates as the party moves towards the 2027 election.
The structure places key figures from the executive, legislature and the APC leadership in strategic positions, reflecting the party’s effort to establish a broad political machinery for the campaign.
Yari, who served as Governor of Zamfara State from 2011 to 2019, is expected to coordinate the activities of the campaign council and work with the various directorates and committees towards the mobilisation of support for President Tinubu.
His appointment also places a prominent northern politician at the centre of the APC’s presidential campaign structure as the party seeks to consolidate its support base ahead of the 2027 election.
The council’s structure is designed to provide political direction, campaign coordination, administration, mobilisation and strategic communication as the APC prepares for the presidential contest.
