Nigeria and Serbia have renewed their commitment to stronger bilateral relations following the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Serbia, Engr. Abasi Ogwime Braimah, to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Braimah presented his credentials on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, formally taking up his responsibility as Nigeria’s Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Serbia, with residence in Budapest, Hungary.
The diplomatic ceremony provided an opportunity for Nigeria and Serbia to review their longstanding relationship and discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
In his remarks, Braimah conveyed the warm greetings of the Government and people of Nigeria to President Vučić, the Serbian Government and the people of Serbia.
He said Nigeria remained committed to maintaining the friendship and mutual respect that have defined relations between both countries, while working towards stronger cooperation in areas of direct benefit to their citizens.
The Ambassador identified political and diplomatic engagement, trade and investment, economic cooperation, education and culture among the areas where both countries could further expand their relationship.
He also expressed his willingness to work with the Serbian Government, members of the diplomatic community, private sector operators and other stakeholders to identify fresh areas of cooperation and strengthen existing partnerships.
Nigeria and Serbia have maintained diplomatic relations for more than six decades, with the relationship built on longstanding political and people-to-people contacts.
The renewed diplomatic engagement comes at a time when both countries are seeking greater opportunities for economic cooperation and stronger international partnerships. For Nigeria, the assignment provides an avenue to deepen its engagement with Serbia and explore areas where increased trade, investment, education and cultural exchanges can produce practical benefits.
Braimah’s accreditation also comes with an opportunity to widen the scope of relations between Abuja and Belgrade, particularly in economic and commercial activities.
The Ambassador is expected to engage Serbian authorities, business interests, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders as he works to strengthen existing areas of cooperation and identify new opportunities for Nigeria and Serbia.
