President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on the people of Akwa Ibom State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno as the state marked its 39th anniversary.
Akpabio made the call during activities marking the anniversary, where he also expressed confidence in the political strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and predicted a sweeping victory for the party in future elections.
The Senate President, who served as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015, described the political stability recorded in the oil-rich Niger Delta region as an indication of what could be achieved through political cooperation and continuity.
He urged the people of the state to support Tinubu for another term as President and Eno for a second term as governor, while also calling for support for himself.
Akpabio said the political developments in Akwa Ibom and the wider Niger Delta could provide useful lessons for the country’s political direction, particularly as Nigeria moves towards another general election.
He also expressed optimism about the prospects of the APC in Akwa Ibom, predicting that the party would secure a sweeping victory in the state.
The Senate President’s call came against the background of increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Akpabio using the anniversary occasion to rally support for Tinubu, Eno and the APC.
Akpabio remains a major political figure in Akwa Ibom, having governed the state for eight years before moving to the Senate and subsequently emerging as President of the Senate.
The anniversary celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on Akwa Ibom’s journey since its creation 39 years ago, while Akpabio’s remarks also brought the state’s political future into focus.
He maintained that the stability recorded in the state and the Niger Delta could be sustained through political cooperation and continuity, urging the people to support the leadership choices he advocated.
