NAF Supports Ground Troops in Anti-Kidnapping Operation in Benue

By NEWSCOUNT Desk

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided close air support to ground troops during an operation targeting suspected kidnappers in Ogbadigbo, Benue State, near the Enugu–Benue boundary.

The operation disrupted the activities of the suspected kidnappers and supported the advance of ground forces, the Air Force said in a statement issued by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

According to the NAF, the air mission was carried out in support of surface forces engaged in the operation, as part of coordinated efforts to confront criminal elements operating in the area.

Following the mission, the pilot elected to make a precautionary landing approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield while returning to base. The decision, the Air Force explained, was based on the pilot’s professional discretion and was consistent with established operational and safety procedures following combat missions.

The NAF confirmed that the helicopter had returned to base, providing an update on the aircraft’s status after the precautionary landing.

The Air Force said it would sustain pressure on criminal elements through continued close air support for ground troops and coordinated air and ground operations.

It added that the operations were aimed at denying criminal groups freedom of action and supporting efforts to restore safety and security to communities affected by their activities.
