Chukwu Sympathises with Uburu Flood Victims, Pledges Practical Solutions

By NEWSCOUNT Desk

Onu Romanus Chukwu has sympathised with victims of the devastating flood in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, which destroyed rice farms and submerged houses, leaving farmers and families with heavy losses.

Chukwu expressed sadness over the disaster, noting that the loss of farmlands and homes had dealt a painful blow to the livelihoods of affected residents, particularly farmers whose investments and hard work had been washed away by the flood.

He extended his sympathy to the affected households and farming families, assuring them that their plight deserved urgent attention and practical support to help them recover from the disaster.

The flooding has also drawn attention to the vulnerability of communities in the area, including neighbouring parts of Ohaozara and nearby communities such as Okposi, Ukawu and Akaeze, where flooding and its effects on livelihoods remain concerns during periods of heavy rainfall.

Chukwu stressed the need for immediate relief for affected families, including food, temporary shelter and other essential supplies, while calling for measures to help farmers recover their losses and return to their farms.

He also called for lasting solutions to recurring flood disasters through improved drainage, proper water-channel management, early warning systems and coordinated action by relevant government agencies and emergency management authorities.

According to him, supporting affected farmers with replacement seedlings, agricultural inputs and other necessary assistance would help them resume production and reduce the risk of prolonged hardship for their families and the wider community.

He maintained that relief efforts should go hand in hand with preventive measures to protect lives, homes and farmlands from future flooding.

Chukwu urged the relevant authorities, community leaders and well-meaning individuals to rally around the victims, stressing that timely intervention would bring relief to affected households and help restore their means of livelihood.

He expressed hope that with practical assistance and sustained preventive action, the affected residents would overcome the present hardship and rebuild their homes and farms.
