A former medical director at the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation in Lagos, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom on allegations of recording private sexual acts involving several women during his years working as a doctor in Kent. He is to remain in custody until January 2, 2026, pending a review of his remand conditions.
The 57-year-old was arrested on Thursday, November 27, at the Gatwick Airport in London shortly after arriving from Nigeria. He was taken into custody by officers attached to the North Kent Police Station and later charged to the Medway Magistrates’ Court, which ordered his remand.
Kent Police confirmed that three counts of voyeurism were filed against the suspect, identified in court papers as Francis Olaleye of Plumstead Common Road, Plumstead, London. Officials told Saturday PUNCH that he denied the charges when he appeared before the court on November 29. Court authorities stated that the offences fall under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and involve the alleged recording of private acts for sexual gratification between May 2004 and July 2007 while he worked in Dartford.
Findings showed that the medical doctor used different versions of his name across multiple platforms, including Frank, Femi, Olufemi, and Francis, all linked to his work history and charitable activities in the UK. Records also revealed inconsistencies regarding his age, with Company House listing him as born in 1968, while he marked what he described as his 58th birthday on Instagram in August 2025.
The court was informed that the recordings allegedly involved women who expected privacy, including one married woman whose explicit video later caused the breakdown of her marriage. Court officials said prosecutors argued that he posed a flight risk, could reoffend, and might abscond. The hearing has been adjourned to January 21 at the Maidstone Magistrates’ Court.
Olaleye’s arrest in the UK comes two years after a high-profile trial in Lagos where he faced charges of defilement and sexual assault by penetration involving his wife’s niece, said to be between 15 and 16 at the time. His estranged wife, Aderemi, had testified that he introduced the girl to pornography before escalating the abuse. The Lagos State Sexual Offences Court convicted him in October 2023 and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The Court of Appeal, however, overturned the conviction in November 2024 and discharged him after ruling that the evidence was unreliable. The appellate court held that the testimonies were tainted and that the trial judge erred in several aspects of the proceedings. The Lagos State Government appealed to the Supreme Court a month later and is seeking to reinstate the conviction.
After securing his acquittal, Olaleye left the country and travelled widely, sharing details of his movements on social media, including visits to the United States, United Arab Emirates, and Italy. He also published books recounting his trial and granted interviews to several media outlets.
He was en route to London when he was arrested at the Gatwick Airport.
