The Ministry of Defence has begun a major digital transformation with the adoption of a cloud-based platform, following a high-level meeting in Abuja on 23 December 2025. The meeting, attended by the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd) OFR, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, and Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Limited, focused on digitizing services across the Ministry.
The initiative will use the 1Government Cloud (1GovCloud), the Federal Government’s official cloud infrastructure, to streamline defence processes, improve secure communication, enhance data management, and strengthen collaboration across departments. The Ministry aims to phase out paper-based workflows, speed up decision-making, and increase transparency and accountability in its operations.
Officials said the 1GovCloud will allow real-time access to critical information, improve workflow efficiency, and support secure data management in line with global cybersecurity standards.
Also present was Mr. Alfred Agaba Abah, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Civil Service Matters, who reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to digital governance and public service reform.
The session ended with a shared commitment to finalize the implementation roadmap, begin pilot integrations, and provide cross-agency training to ensure a smooth transition to the new platform.
