Speakers of state Houses of Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have elected the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, as Deputy National Chairman, North, of the APC Speakers Conference. The decision was reached during the Conference’s national meeting held in Abuja, where Jatau emerged through a consensus arrangement by his colleagues from across the northern states.
Following his election, Jatau expressed appreciation to the Speakers for the confidence reposed in him, describing the outcome as a collective decision rooted in trust and shared responsibility. He pledged to work closely with other members of the Conference to strengthen unity among APC Speakers and to contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of the party’s legislative leadership at the state level.
Jatau said his focus would be on promoting innovation, institutional stability and purposeful collaboration among Speakers, noting that the Conference plays a strategic role in aligning legislative governance with the broader objectives of the party. He assured his colleagues that he would approach the assignment with commitment and a clear sense of duty, adding that the position comes with high expectations that must be met through service and results.
The Nasarawa Speaker described his emergence as both an honour and a responsibility, not only to the Conference but also to his state and the northern region. He noted that the support he received reflected confidence in his leadership style and legislative experience, and promised to justify that trust through constructive engagement and inclusive leadership.
The APC Speakers Conference serves as a forum for Speakers of APC-controlled state assemblies to coordinate positions, exchange ideas on governance and legislative practice, and support the party’s policy direction across the states.
