As Muslims in Nigeria and across the world prepare to commence the holy month of Ramadan, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, has called on the faithful to use the period to pray for peace in the country and globally, while fostering compassion and understanding among people.
According to a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio extended warm greetings to Muslim communities in Nigeria and around the world, urging them to see Ramadan as a time for spiritual reflection, self-improvement and renewal. He said the sacred month offers an opportunity for believers to strengthen their faith, practice kindness, and encourage harmony in homes, workplaces and communities.
The Senate President prayed that the fasting, prayers and good deeds of Muslims would be accepted by Allah and said he hoped Ramadan would bring peace, prosperity and blessings to families and the nation. He encouraged the Muslim ummah to embrace understanding, empathy and unity during the holy month, describing these virtues as essential to nurturing a peaceful and cohesive society.
Islamic leaders in Nigeria have announced that the Ramadan fast will begin on the morning of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following pre-dawn observances that mark the start of fasting after the sighting of the new moon, with worshippers taking the pre-dawn meal before the break of day and fasting until sunset throughout the month.
