President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has called on Christians across Nigeria to embrace prayer, repentance and humility as they commence the Lenten season marked by Ash Wednesday.
Akpabio made the call in a message to Christian faithful to mark the beginning of Lent, urging them to see the period as one of sober reflection and renewed commitment to God and humanity.
In the message, he reminded Christians of the significance of Ash Wednesday, noting that the symbolic use of ashes underscores human mortality and the need for humility and repentance. He encouraged believers to devote the season to introspection, forgiveness and reconciliation, while strengthening their relationship with God and fostering unity with one another.
The Senate President also assured Nigerians of the commitment of the National Assembly to promote harmony through legislation. He stated that lawmakers would continue to enact laws that advance unity, peace and mutual understanding among citizens.
Extending goodwill on behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate and the 10th National Assembly, Akpabio prayed for God’s guidance and blessings for Christians throughout the Lenten season.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President urged believers to allow the spiritual discipline of the season to shape their conduct and deepen their faith.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten observance in the Christian calendar, a period devoted to fasting, prayer and almsgiving in preparation for Easter.
