On Thursday, 27th. July, 2023, at a well attended event in Abuja, some select youths with unique ideas and talents who successfully participated in UNDP-SGP project, titled Deploying the Power of IT-Engaged Youths in Effective Plastic Use and Plastic Waste Management thrilled invited guests with their research and deployment of various techniques towards transforming plastic waste to wealth creation through several months of intensive training.
Earlier in her welcome message/opening remarks, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote who is the National Co-ordinator of Digital Peers International (DPI) and retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment took the audience down memory lane; stating that since the inception of the project earlier this year, the primary objective has been to empower young individuals to contribute their innovative solutions towards tackling the challenges associated with plastic use and plastic waste in our society hence Digital Peers International (DPI) engaged and nurtured a group of 200 passionate youths who have dedicated their time and efforts to generate exceptional ideas on efficient plastic use and waste management with a view to generating income and at the same time promoting cleaner environment for all.
In separate goodwill messages delivered by special guests amongst whom were Pastor (Mrs) Asabe Umar, Engr. Adeolu Odusote, they commended the participants and charged them to deploy to good use all that they have learnt so far.
Highlights of the event were a summary presentation by Dr. Olufunto Boroffice titled Innovations in Plastic Waste Management, Presentation of Ideas by the successful graduands Groups A and B, Short Documentary Video on Plastic Waste Management, announcement of next phase (DIGITEST 2023) Award of Star Prize of #1Million was presented, #750,000 to the second runner up and #500,000 to the third runner up.
