Honorable Uchenna Harris Okonkwo: Member Representing Idemili North And South Federal Constituency Has Called For Greater Democratic Values

The Honorable Member, representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the Green Chambers has called for greater democratic values to be imbibed by all and sundry, Hon. Okonkwo made the call yesterday in Abuja at a one day summit organized by Yar’Adua Foundation in collaboration with Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and Trust Africa with the theme: The State of Democracy in Africa.

Hon. Okonkwo while fielding questions from newsmen stated that: “we need to work together to further achieve and improve on the right ideals of democratic principles and values both in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, stressing further that integrated efforts and respect for the rules governing democratic practice will be of immense benefit to all.

He called for citizens increased awareness and more active participation in democratic process that will bring about progress and developments in sync with other key actors.

The Summit attracted the Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, President of Ford Foundation, Mr Darren Walker, popular Nigerian Poet, Mr. Dike Chukwumerije, National Youth Corp members, civil society organisations members and many other distinguished guests.

The Summit focussed on gains, challenges and threats to democracy in Africa and the way forward for desired improvements.
