In its routine active collaborations for climate change accelerated solutions and effective policy framework implementation, a group of non-governmental organisations who are leading constant advocacy initiatives and programs on climate change issues: Climate Clock Nigeria and others has successfully embarked on historic Climate Emergency Day Walk on Saturday July 20, 2024 in Abuja to commemorate this year’s edition.
The walk which commenced from popular Millennium Park witnessed a large turn out of climate change experts, climate change youth ambassadors, advocates, NGOS, stakeholders, and members of the fourth estate of the realm is primarily meant to further upscale awareness and synergized clarion calls for more strategic diverse collective actions by all key state actors, non-state actors and communities in combating multi-faceted issues around climate change in our immediate environment and by extension- globally.
Earlier, while addressing the participants and members of the press- soliciting for everyone’s continuous involvement and support, the West African Co-ordinator of Climate Clock, Mr Joseph Ibrahim further stressed the need for increased collaborations and practical actions because climate clock ticks fast. Mr Ibrahim emphasized that good climatic condition for the benefit of all is achievable when humans #ActInTime!
In his remark the National Co-ordinator, Climate Clock Nigeria and Founder Eco Cykle, Mr Aliyu Sadiq charged the government and various stakeholders to take a firm position in addressing climate change because the climate clock ticks continuously without waiting for no one.
Miss Lauritta Boniface, Co-founder: Eco Cykle in her reaction called for more women in parliament for effective and even representation because of the fact that many women and children are usually affected when there is occurrence of floodings and other climatic disasters.
In the same vein Mr. Chukwuma Matthew Ogonnaya, Co Funder of
Susew Human Development Foundation urged those in positions of authority and the media to continue to promote and support activities of non-state actors in realizing the set goals for better eco-system.
Climate Clock countdown that tracks the deadline to stay below 1.5oC of global warming will drop from 5 Years 0 days 00 00 00 to 4 years 364 days 23:59:59 for the first time in history on Monday, July 22nd 2024, a key mile stone for humanity that will spark a wave of synchronized actions around the world, demanding an end to fossil fuels and pushing leaders to #ActInTime to accelerate real climate solution.
Other activities lined up by Climate Clock Nigeria include on Monday 22nd July Climate Clock Set Countdown to below five years, planned courtesy visit to the National Assembly Complex on 23rd. July, 2024 to press for demand on increased budgetary allocation to combat climate change matters, advocate legal provision for more women in parliament in order to help lend their voices to climate change matters as well as impactful policy framework amongst others.
