CRUCIAL CALL FOR A BROAD NATIONAL DIALOGUE: “A DIALOGUE WITH WISDOM”
Nigeria stands at a pivotal moment in its history—on the brink of an unprecedented evolutionary transition. The challenges we face today are profound and multifaceted, encompassing governance, economic inequality, social cohesion, national unity, and the very soul of our nation. The complexity of these issues defies simplistic solutions. What we need is a collective and transformative approach—a Broad National Dialogue—rooted in the principles of Wisdom, Understanding, and National Consciousness. This is not just a call for dialogue; it is a call for a Dialogue with Wisdom.
What is “Dialogue with Wisdom”?
The phrase “Dialogue with Wisdom” is a profound and timeless Precept that has guided human civilizations through their most challenging periods. It is not merely a discussion or exchange of ideas; it is an elevated conversation that delves into the deeper dimensions of our collective Consciousness, Inner Understanding, and Moral Principles. This form of dialogue invites every citizen, leader, and community to listen, reflect, and act from a place of Higher Understanding—ensuring that our actions are aligned with Universal Values that benefit all.
“Dialogue with Wisdom” is about engaging in meaningful exchanges that harness our collective Wisdom. It is guided by Principles of Truth, Humility, Insight, and Open-mindedness—qualities that are indispensable for bringing lasting solutions to our national challenges. This dialogue is not about talking to be heard; it is about listening deeply, reflecting sincerely, and learning from one another with the Humility that recognizes our shared Humanity.
The Significance of a Broad National Dialogue: “Dialogue with Wisdom”
At this critical juncture, Nigeria cannot afford to rely solely on politics, policy statements, or superficial reforms. We must delve deeper, reenacting a Collective Consciousness that truly reflects the aspirations and yearnings of all Nigerians. History shows us that great nations and civilizations have risen to greatness by engaging in deep, sincere dialogue that involves every sector of society. Now is the time for Nigeria to take that bold step.
This dialogue is crucial to our corporate existence as a people. It is the bedrock upon which Real Peace, Durable Unity, and a True Human Civilization can be built in Nigeria. This dialogue must go beyond the surface; it must reach into the hearts and minds of every Nigerian, allowing for self-examination, self-reflection, and the forging of a New National Identity grounded in Unity, Purpose, and Collective Prosperity.
The Role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his national broadcast responding to the “End Bad Governance Protest,” has already called for a national dialogue, this is a very perceptible response. So it is imperative that he leads this crucial conversation as the Head of State. His leadership in this matter is not only symbolic but also practical. It reflects the sincerity of purpose needed to galvanize all citizens and stakeholders toward a common goal.
President Tinubu’s role in this national dialogue is to:
- Set the Agenda for Dialogue: Clearly define the scope, objectives, and framework of the dialogue to ensure it addresses Nigeria’s most pressing issues.
- Ensure Inclusivity: Make certain that this dialogue is inclusive, representing all regions, ethnicities, religious groups, youth, women, and marginalized voices to ensure a true reflection of the nation’s diversity.
- Promote Sincerity and Transparency: Lead by example by demonstrating genuine commitment to listening and implementing the outcomes of the dialogue.
- Mobilize Critical Sectors: Work with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector, to ensure broad-based participation and buy-in.
- Create a Roadmap for Implementation: Transform the outcomes of the dialogue into actionable policies and frameworks that will guide the nation’s path toward unity and prosperity.
Historical Precedents: Learning from Other Nations
History is replete with examples of nations that have successfully averted looming catastrophe and consciously created a new path of unity and prosperity through sincere national dialogue. A few examples include:
- South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC): In the wake of apartheid, South Africa stood at the precipice of a potential civil war. However, through a sincere and inclusive national dialogue led by leaders like Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, the nation was able to confront its past, heal its divisions, and chart a new course toward a peaceful, democratic future.
- Rwanda’s National Unity and Reconciliation Commission: After the horrors of the 1994 genocide, Rwanda could have disintegrated into perpetual conflict. Instead, under the leadership of Paul Kagame, Rwanda embarked on a journey of national dialogue, reconciliation, and rebuilding. Today, Rwanda is considered one of Africa’s most remarkable stories of recovery, growth, and national unity.
- Tunisia’s National Dialogue Quartet: Faced with the fallout of the Arab Spring and potential civil strife, Tunisia engaged in a national dialogue process that involved civil society organizations. This process is credited with saving Tunisia from the fate of other nations in the region, leading to a successful transition to democracy.
Responsibilities of Other Critical Sectors
While the President plays a crucial role, every sector of Nigerian society has a fundamental responsibility in this dialogue:
- Legislative and Judicial Bodies: Must ensure that the dialogue leads to the creation of laws and legal frameworks that protect the outcomes of the dialogue and promote national unity and development.
- Civil Society and NGOs: Facilitate grassroots engagement, ensuring that the voices of the ordinary people are heard and represented.
- Traditional and Religious Leaders: Use their influence to foster a spirit of unity, peace, and reconciliation, encouraging their communities to actively participate in the dialogue.
- Academic Institutions: Provide research, data, and intellectual frameworks to support the dialogue, helping to ground it in evidence-based solutions.
- The Media: Ensure accurate and unbiased coverage of the dialogue, playing a key role in educating the public and holding stakeholders accountable.
- Youth and Women’s Groups: Advocate for the inclusion of young people and women in decision-making processes, ensuring that the future of Nigeria is shaped by all its citizens.
Galvanizing Citizens for a National Dialogue
For this national dialogue to succeed, it is critical to galvanize all citizens. This is a call for every Nigerian to rise above regional, ethnic, and political divisions and to see themselves as part of a larger, unified Nigerian family. This dialogue is not just about governance; it is about creating a New Nigeria—a country that will be the pride of Africa and a beacon of hope for humanity.
The Glorious Outcome: A Unified, Purposeful, Peaceful, and Prosperous New Nigeria
If conducted sincerely and inclusively, the Broad National Dialogue: A Dialogue with Wisdom will birth a Unified, Purposeful, Peaceful, and Prosperous New Nigeria. This New Nigeria will not only address the current challenges but will also set the foundation for the last New Universal Civilization for Humanity, with Nigeria as the Archetype.
This is the most important national conversation of our lifetime, and its success depends on the collective will and wisdom of all Nigerians. A New Nigeria awaits—a Nigeria that will be a shining example to the world, demonstrating the Power of Wisdom, Unity, and Purposeful Dialogue in Building a Great Nation.
Now is the time to act! Now is the time to Dialogue with Wisdom!.
