Today, at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Debate in Geneva, themed ‘Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future,’ I addressed the delegates on Nigeria’s steps toward responsible use of technology.
The theme aligns with our goal of building an equitable society, with technology driving our development agenda. Nigeria as a nation, aims to lead discussions on AI’s role in upholding the rule of law, with our National AI Policy set to protect citizens’ rights while promoting innovation.
I highlighted key legislative actions, including the Nigeria Startup Act of 2022, which supports innovation and entrepreneurship. Despite AI risks, we continue to support global efforts to create ethical AI frameworks that protect human rights and democratic values.
Nigeria remains committed to increasing investment in digital infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas, and actively seeks global partnerships to build a resilient STI ecosystem for sustainable development.
