Politics is not charity, rather it is a game of interest. To that extent, many who understands Nigeria’s political culture know that what is playing out in Rivers state is a supremacy battle. It is a contest and tussle for control of instruments of power.
However, it is not ideal for any of the players to hide under guise of politics to commit abominable and sacrilegious acts knowing that everything in life is guided by set of laws.
His Excellency, Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike the immediate past Governor of Rivers state and present Minister of the Federal Capital Territory is one of the champions and heroes in the Niger Delta which has earned him some respect. But ceased to enjoy such respect after committing abominable and sacrilegious act by opening his cancerous mouth to insult and spew rubbish against President Goodluck Jonathan GCON/GCFR.
While the choice of drinking forty years old whisky is an individual decision, but descending and falling into the gutter under the influence of the whisky is the lowest he could go and such shame is unacceptable. Rt
As a good, caring and very loving father, no one can actually blame or accuse President Goodluck Jonathan of not giving Wike a good upbringing. Afterall, Wike is just one out of the multitudes of children that Jonathan has. Every good father would naturally wish his children to follow his decent lifestyle. But several factors can influence some of the children to behave otherwise.
The case of President Goodluck Jonathan and his son Wike would have been likened to that of Justice Chukwudifu Oputa and his son Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa alias Charly Boy the Area Father but that of Charly Boy is better because of the positive vibes he exudes.
It is sad that Wike does not have good handlers who should be courageous to tell him when and where to stop. He was loved and admired by many at some point due to the seeming good works he did in Port Harcourt even though not in all parts of Rivers state because he concentrated development in his native Ikwerre land, thereby abandoning other parts particularly the riverine area that produce the largest quantities and percentage of crude oil and gas that make Rivers state one of the highest oil and gas producing states in the country.
Wike’s inability to control his mouth and also choose his fights has attracted unimaginable hatred and made him to loose so much goodwill at all levels and fronts. The dismantling of his structures in Rivers state is just one of the evidences.
Wike was a glorified tout and king of Motor Park in Rivers state. Senator John Azuta Mbata his kinsmen saw some nuisance value in him that he wanted to transform positively and sponsored him to be Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA.
Sir Peter Otunanya Odili and his wife Justice Mary Odili graciously gave their blessings as the then First Family in the state.
Thereafter, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi appointed Wike as Chief of Staff. But instead of working to protect his Ikwerre brother, he rather betrayed Amaechi and sold him out like Judas Ischariot.
President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him as Minister of State for Education and while there, he betrayed his Minister, Prof. Ruqayyah Ahmed Rufa’i who was later suspended and Wike was made Acting Minister of Education.
Wike instigated and promoted so much bad blood between Gov. Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan because of his inordinate ambition to be Governor of Rivers state.
President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife used state power to make Wike Governor of Rivers state against all odds and the crisis between Amaechi and President Jonathan actually resulted in all the issues that culminated to the outcome of the 2015 Presidential election.
Therefore, it is the lowest descent of Wike to open his mouth to spew rubbish against President Goodluck Jonathan who sacrificed his ambition for him.
It is very shameful even though not strange for Wike to turn around to behave like the Prodigal Son. Wike has squandered the support and goodwill that he hitherto enjoyed. Everyone now know his true colour as someone that can never be trusted.
Wike has betrayed everyone that helped him to get to the height that he has gotten and it is obvious that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be his next victim. Yoruba elders and leaders have already foreseen the future betrayal which is the reason they are clamouring for his sack. However, Niger Deltans are never in support of such clamour. We know we have a bad son and brother, but we will not betray him the way and manner he has betrayed others. Siblings who join hands to discipline a deviant son that disrespected their father do not do so because of hatred, rather they act out of love and their bid to instill discipline that will make him a better and more reasonable and responsible child.
Wike should know that life and nature have set boundaries that must be respected. President Goodluck Jonathan is the biggest Masquerade and greatest Champion in the Niger Delta and by extension, the old Eastern region and Mid-Western region, thus it is our collective duty to respect, honour and protect him.
President Barack Obama of the United States never likened President Goodluck Jonathan who opposed all the negative things that Obama represented and promoted, yet he could not hide his respect for Jonathan. He said Jonathan occupies an enviable position and holds a special record in the world as the only person who grew from the Office/Position of a Deputy Governor to Governor, Vice President, Acting President and President within a space of eleven (11) years (1999-2010) and served as President for six (6) years (2010-2015).
Jonathan is a rare specie. He is a supernatural human being. We must learn to respect him even though his greatness does not depend on our validation or otherwise. We will never exchange President Goodluck Jonathan for any consideration. He remains our outstanding hero, legend, living deity, champion and our worthy Ambassador especially during meetings of Champions.
Finally, the earlier Wike retraces his step, the better for him. He cannot arrogate to himself the title of Omnipotent, Omniscience and Omnipresence to himself as someone who made everyone and was never made.
