RANDOM 264. As you grow older, doctors will advise on lifestyle commitments. That’s because things get broken, things leak, things don’t function optimally, and some things go on strike as we advance in years.
You’ll be told to take walks, drink lots of water, and eat greens. But what if greens are grey, would we want to eat them?
Colour affects taste. Imagine Eba, blue! And it’s not just colour that influences our eating. We also react to shape. Take broccoli. I have a grudge against it.
I don’t understand how a vegetable can grow an afro. There’s just something wrong with that. I have an uncanny valley revulsion towards broccoli. “Uncanny Valley” is the discomfort we have when a robot is so human-like. Broccoli wears afro! It’s human-like.
But that got me thinking. One of the arguments against God’s goodness is, why would a good and all-knowing God allow pain and suffering? If he had foreknowledge of pain and he does nothing about it, he can’t be good. And if he’s good but knows nothing about our suffering, he can’t be all-knowing. One disqualifies the other.
There are counters to the argument, of course, one of which is the fact that God doesn’t want a robotic world. If he has to intervene regularly in our affairs, then we don’t exercise freewill. A human has freewill, he’s not a robot. That will create an uncanny valley like experience for God. You can’t want free will and insist on God intervening regularly in your affairs. So committed is God to the concept of freewill that he subjected himself to it. Angels have freewill, and one led a revolution.
One-third of the angel population followed the guy. God foreknew the revolution, but he still allowed it to run its course. He maintained the integrity of his design. He refused to tamper with freewill. His Son was also crucified. He could have stopped it.
Freewill makes us human, but freewill has consequences. It calls for personal responsibility. You’re responsible for your life. If you don’t read your Bible, for instance, you can’t complain you were misled. You lack moral justification.
You’ve got to take responsibility for your life. Quit blaming others. Freewill.
