The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has said that the National Assembly will continue to enact policies that enhance the provision of quality education in the country as a way of ensuring that the nation’s future is not only guaranteed but is also driven by youths that have been adequately equipped for the challenges of tomorrow.
Senator Akpabio stated this on Saturday at the opening ceremony and inaugural matriculation of Amadeus University, Amizi in Ikwuano LGA.
Represented by Senator Austin Akobundu, the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Akpabio declared that, “We in government must not only enact policies but also ensure that they are carried out with vigour, vision and veracity. We must encourage institutions like Amadeus to thrive, to innovate, to stand as bastions of intellectual might. And we must invite the private sector, philanthropists, and all men of goodwill to join in this sacred mission.”
Akpabio had earlier in the address advocated for favourable conditions to help students excel in their studies irrespective of where they are. “We must ensure that every child, from the bustling streets of Lagos to the quiet hamlets of Abia, has the opportunity to learn, to grow, and to excel. This is not a choice; it is imperative! A nation that fails to educate its youths has already written its obituary,” he said.
On his part, Senator Austin Akobundu tasked the matriculating students to utilise the opportunity offered by their parents and the school authorities to work assiduously towards their ambitions in order to offer responsible leadership to the world in the near future.
“Let me assure parents and guardians that the choice of this institution for your children and wards will always be greatly rewarded. The authorities have dedicated themselves to the creation of a world class university that will prepare the students to compete favourably among their peers anywhere in the world and have given even more to sustain the standard,” he affirmed.
In his address, the Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees of Amadeus University, Dr Godwin Nwabunka, said the institution was founded to empower, to inspire, and to shape the next generation of African leaders.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the university announced that the matriculating students were admitted across all the 19 NUC-approved courses of the institution.
The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, was represented at the event by the state’s commissioner for tertiary education, Prof Uche Eme Uche.
Highlights of the occasion included an award presented by the university to Senator Godswill Akpabio as “Doyen of Education and Transformational Leadership” and the cutting of the tape marking the official opening of Amadeus University.
