Deputy Inspector General of Police: (DIG) Banji Lawal was decorated at the Force Headquarters in Abuja yesterday, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The ceremony was attended by his wife, children, friends, associates and other dignitaries. The Inspector General of Police, IG Egbetokun decorated him and was ably assisted by the DIG’s wife.
DIG Lawal, formerly the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Border Patrol, was promoted to his new rank after passing rigorous oral and written promotion examination- coupled with his successful stint in his previous role. The Police Service Commission (PSC) approved his promotion during an extraordinary session few weeks ago.

The promotion and decoration of DIG Lawal mark a significant achievement in his career. His dedication and commitment to the Nigeria Police Force have earned him recognition and respect from his peers and superiors.
In his reaction, DIG Lawal expressed joy and happiness for attaining the new rank and assured that he will perform optimally.
His former Second in Command: Border Patrol, Commissioner of Police CP Nemi Owo described DIG Lawal as a pleasant boss to work with and wished him great success in his new position.

DIG Lawal’s nephew, Comrade Kayode Lawal, a Special Assistant to Rt. Hon Speaker: Dr Tajudden Abbas on Constituency Engagement, described his uncle as a very focused person, who from his early life, has shown traits of a well focused personality, listening and caring uncle, highly intelligent, patriotic, and pragmatic community leader; whose major priority and happiness is to see everyone around him succeed.
Similarly, Rev & Mrs Johnson Ayozie & Mr Emmanuel Ayozie described DIG Lawal as a fortright, bright and kind-hearted gentleman and great family friend.
In his reaction, Abdelhafeez Ishaq-Maigida, Secretary National Ikirun Progressive Union Abuja Chapter described DIG Lawal as one of illustrious sons of Ikirun that has made everyone proud, he prayed for God to continue guide and protect him and grant him more success in the discharge of his duty.
In a separate event later in the evening, it became a grand affair reception in honour of the newly decorated DIG at the Police Officers Mess, Garki, Abuja.
The colourful reception was attended by his course mates, who came to celebrate his achievement. The Police Wives Association (POWA) was not left out, with both serving and retired senior police officers also in attendance, as well as other important dignitaries.
Lawal’s community people from Ikirun in Osun State- NIPU Abuja Chapter added a touch of tradition and culture to the event, thrilling the audience with their vibrant traditional dance.
The warm reception was filled with heartfelt testimonies about DIG Lawal, showcasing his dedication, commitment, character and exemplary leadership qualities.
Highlights of the event include group photographs, cutting of cake, dance, presentation of award and gifts by well wishers, police band musical performance, as well as entertainment of guests.
