Following a National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, some group of civil society organizations have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting democratic values and good governance in the country.
The conference, which held in Abuja few week ago, was followed by a strategy meeting yesterday equally in Abuja, where participants identified key areas of focus, including:
- Promoting electoral integrity and political accountability
- Strengthening civic engagement and awareness
- Enhancing the capacity of democratic institutions
- Media and information dissemination
- Security sector reform and electoral justice
- Sustainability of civil society efforts
In a press release immediately after the Strategy meeting, Mr. Ezenwa Nwagwu, Executive Director of Peering Advocacy and Advancement Center in Africa (PAACA), emphasized the importance of active citizen participation in democratic governance.
“Democracy is not just about elections,” Nwagwu said. “It is about active participation, constant vigilance, and collective action. We urge citizens to stay engaged, demand transparency from leaders, and work with us to shape a democracy that works for all.”
In closing, the press release also acknowledged the support of organizations such as Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD), the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), and PAACA and all other participants for attending.
