Dubem Onyia, a highly respected politician and seasoned administrator, has died at the age of 73. According to sources close to the late minister, Onyia passed away on Monday.
Onyia had a distinguished career in politics and public service, serving as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 but resigned to take on the ministerial role.
Throughout his career, Onyia held several key positions, including Chairman of the International Technical Commission for the National Boundary Commission, Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Joint Commission, and Chairman of the Sao Tome and Principe Joint Boundary Commission. He was also a trustee of the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation and chaired numerous corporate boards, serving on various government committees.
Onyia was born on February 23, 1952, in Enugu, and had a strong educational background, attending schools in Lagos, Ikire, and Enugu, as well as furthering his education in the United Kingdom.
