The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 219 senior police officers to various ranks, in a move aimed at boosting morale and enhancing the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force. This development comes on the heels of the Commission’s plenary meeting, which took place on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025.
According to the Commission, 26 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) have been elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). Notable ACPs promoted include Tarzan Yusuf Tsav, Area Commander, Irrua, Edo State; Samantha Nansah Barko, ACP SCID, Bauchi State Command; Shehu Wase Abdullahi, Area Commander Kazaure, Jigawa State Command; and Ajeigbe Olayinka, Area Commander, Area ‘M’ Idimu, Lagos.
Additionally, 23 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) have been elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), while 170 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) have been also promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).
Earlier on Monday, the Commission also approved the promotion of 66 senior police officers, including 20 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 19 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police, 13 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents of Police, and 14 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), reiterated that promotion exams have become a permanent feature of the police promotion process, stressing that every public servant must undergo promotion examinations as part of the existing public service rules.
