The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has intervened in the case of Late Mr. Onyebuchi Anene, who was gruesomely murdered by ASP Adamu Buba, a police officer under the FCT Command, on May 22, 2024.
Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, had on July 4, 2024, appealed to the Nigerian Senate for intervention in the matter. The Senate referred the case to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
The Police confessed to the crime and prosecuted and detained ASP Adamu Buba. On March 20, the Committee met with Mrs. Ogochukwu Anene, the widow of the late Mr. Anene, and her legal team, as well as relatives of ASP Adamu Buba.
The Committee urged the widow and her legal team to accept reconciliatory moves from the relatives of the police officer, with the assurance that justice will be served. The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Neda Imasuen, acknowledged Senator Umeh’s efforts in achieving justice for his slain constituent.
The Committee will engage with Senator Umeh and Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, to negotiate proper compensations and reconciliation between the two parties. This development is a testament to Senator Umeh’s commitment to effective representation of his constituents.
