According to Comrade Yahaya Oluwaseun, Secretary of Concerned Members of PASAN, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) National Assembly Chapter Congress held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Senate Conference Hall, Room 231, ended abruptly due to disagreements over the agenda and alleged disregard for the association’s constitution.
The congress was convened to resolve the lingering crisis within the chapter, following allegations against the Sunday Sabiyi-led executive officers regarding funds accrued to the chapter since 2019. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Trade Unions Registrar, national officers, and past leaders of the union.
The congress began with prayers and a minute silence for departed members. Attendees included Barr. Obiora, three representatives of the Trade Unions Registrar, national officers, and past leaders.
Members rejected the presented agenda, calling for amendments to address the chapter’s issues. However, their concerns were ignored by the chairman. The chairman’s actions sparked a rowdy session, prompting the Deputy National President to intervene and call for decorum.
Members called for the dissolution of the Chapter Executive Council, citing abuse of rule of law and disregard for the association’s constitution. The congress ended abruptly at 12:28 pm after the motion for dissolution was adopted, with national officers and the Sunday Sabiyi-led executive officers being chased away.
This development highlights the deep-seated issues within PASAN and raises questions about the leadership and management of the association. In a related incident, PASAN had previously taken drastic measures, such as barricading the National Assembly complex entrance and exit, during a nationwide strike in June 2024.
