Abuja-based journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor is poised to break the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing marathon, aimed at promoting press freedom in Nigeria. The anticipated 72-hour event, themed “Nigeria Our Strength,” will take place from April 17 to 20, 2025, at Harrow Park Golf Club in Abuja.
Victor’s initiative aims to highlight the importance of a free press in a thriving democracy. He reaffirms that journalists are the pillars of democracy and guardians of truth, playing a crucial role in promoting transparency, challenging power, and giving voice to the voiceless.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has indicated its support for the event. The union’s Chairperson, Comrade Grace Ike, commends the initiative as timely and courageous, highlighting the need to protect press freedom and promote quality journalism.
The 72-hour interview marathon will feature discussions on media ethics, civic responsibility, freedom of expression, and the challenges facing the Nigerian media industry, spotlighting the courage and resilience of practitioners working under difficult circumstances.
Victor and the NUJ FCT Council invite members of the public, media professionals, civic leaders, and advocates of democracy to support and witness the event. They emphasize the need for collaboration to safeguard press freedom and deepen the culture of accountability in the country.
“We invite members in the FCT to be active participants in this historic initiative. Together, we can use the power of the media to bring about a freer, more informed, and more equitable world,” Comrade Ike said.
