The Nigerian sports community is in mourning following the passing of football legend Chairman Christian Chukwu, and renowned football pundit and former Rangers International FC image maker, Chief Chidi Okolo, is among those paying tribute to the late icon.
In a heartfelt tribute, Okolo described Chukwu’s death as “devastating and shocking,” saying his passing is a personal loss to him. He praised Chukwu as one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s history, highlighting his impressive exploits at the 1980 Nations Cup and his triumph with Rangers International FC in the 1977 Africa Cup Winners Cup.
Okolo also commended Chukwu’s coaching achievements, including guiding Nigeria to third place at the 2004 AFCON and contributing to the country’s first U17 World Cup win as an assistant coach. “Nigeria and indeed the African continent have lost a football icon who took the world by storm with his exceptional skills and achievements,” Okolo said.
With Chukwu’s legacy continuing to inspire future generations of footballers, Okolo’s tribute serves as a testament to the lasting impact of this remarkable individual on Nigerian football.
