The Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) has launched three innovative digital platforms to enhance transparency and citizen engagement in governance. The platforms, which include PLAC BillsTrack, PLAC Legislative Agenda Tracker, and the PLAC Legislative Repository, are designed to provide citizens with easy access to information on legislative activities and promote active participation in governance.

The launch event, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, brought together stakeholders from the legislature, media, and civil society. In his welcome remarks, PLAC Executive Director Clement Nwankwo emphasized the vital role of the legislature in a democracy and the importance of ensuring that legislative processes and outputs are accessible to the public.

Chris Okeke, Governance Team Lead at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, commended PLAC for the initiative, stating that the British High Commission is proud to support the project. He noted that the platforms will allow citizens to engage with the National Assembly and track its legislative agenda, promoting accountability and serving as a valuable resource for governance research.

The keynote address was delivered by Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was represented by Hon Victor Obuzor, Chairman of the House Committee on Civil Society and Development Matters. The Speaker described the platforms as a comprehensive hub for information on the National Assembly and encouraged citizens to engage with legislative activities to better understand the National Assembly’s work.

PLAC’s Deputy Director, Omolara Akinyeye, outlined the goals of the three platforms, emphasizing their individual contributions to transparency, accountability, and civic participation. The platforms are expected to enhance citizen engagement and promote good governance in Nigeria.
