Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko has congratulated the Governor of Delta State on his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), hailing it as a significant moment in the nation’s political history. In a statement delivered as a personal charge to the Governor, Nwoko emphasized that this moment presents a bold opportunity for restructuring Nigeria’s federating units through constitutionally backed reforms.
Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the Senate, noted that the APC has already begun laying the groundwork for constitutional amendments, including the creation of two new states: Anioma and New Delta. He reminded the Governor that this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership before his defection, underscoring the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalization.
The Senator urged the Governor to rise to this historic moment, leaving behind old habits and politics that led to the decline of the PDP in Delta. He emphasized that the defection must be transformative, embracing a new sense of purpose and demonstrating renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development.
Nwoko highlighted the significance of creating Anioma and New Delta states, stating that it will give voice, identity, and institutional power to the aspirations of Delta North and address deep internal asymmetries within the current Delta State structure. He added that the APC’s numbers in the National Assembly will enable the party to fulfill these promises without demanding painful tradeoffs from the South.
The Senator concluded by urging the Governor to lead the charge for constitutional reform, embracing the party’s progressive agenda and leaving behind the politics of survival for the politics of legacy.
