The Police Service Commission (PSC) is hosting a 3-day induction program for its newly appointed Board Members in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, from April 28th to April 30th, 2025. The event, scheduled to take place at the Four Points by Sheraton Ikot Ekpene, aims to engage critical stakeholders on strategies for strengthening the institutional capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and deepening accountability in law enforcement governance.
The ceremony will be led by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu, and will feature prominent dignitaries, including the Senate President, Senator Godswil Akpabio, Members of the National Assembly, State Governors, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Hon Minister of Police Affairs, the Inspector General of Police, traditional Rulers, and eminent Resource Persons.
The induction program is designed to familiarize the new appointees with their roles in overseeing police operations, promoting accountability, and driving reforms within the Nigeria Police Force. The Commission’s Chairman emphasized the importance of the induction, stating that it will equip the Board Members with strategic tools to improve policing standards and public trust in law enforcement.
The PSC plays a crucial role in the oversight and governance of the Nigeria Police Force, and this induction program is expected to contribute significantly to shaping the future of policing in Nigeria. Chairman of the Commission, DIG Argungu said the induction is coming at a time the Commission needs more impetus in the discharge of its constitutional oversight mandate. He stated that the new Board Members are expected to leave Ikot Ekpene rejuvenated to execute its challenging constitutional mandate of recruitment, promotion, dismissal and disciplinary control over Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force.
