Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has slammed
Malami expressed his concerns at the National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting in Abuja, attended by prominent political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and other notable figures such as Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, Rotimi Amaechi, Babachir Lawal, and Peter Ameh.
Malami stressed that the APC’s focus should be on addressing pressing issues like insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty rather than politicking. The APC’s national summit, which endorsed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has sparked controversy. Malami argued that this decision demonstrates the party’s misplaced priorities, particularly with two years still remaining in the current administration. He called on political stakeholders to unite and push for good governance and economic stability.
Malami highlighted the detrimental impact of the government’s policies, such as the removal of fuel subsidy and border mismanagement, on the economy, particularly in the northern region. He also emphasized that insecurity has reached unprecedented levels under the current administration, aggravating poverty, hunger, and destitution. Malami stressed the need for selfless leaders who prioritize the needs of the people over personal ambition or political opportunism.
The National Political Consultative Group (North) also resolved to present a united front in political choices going forward, prioritizing industrialization, high productivity, and equity in national political participation.
