Memorable Saturday, May 31st, 2025, marked a grand finale of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s week-long 60th birthday celebration. The evening event, held at the large Transcorp Event Center in Abuja, was attended by past and present leaders from across party lines, the Conference of Former Assembly Speakers, former first ladies, media partners, socio-cultural groups, youth organisations, townspeople, and teeming supporters. Notable figures such as Dr. Tonye Cole, High Chief Lulu Briggs, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Timipreye Silva, former Governor of Rivers State, HE Celestine Omehia, HE Liyel Imoke (former Cross River State Governor), Ichie Akubudike Nwabueze, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, Collins Nnaama Nwabueze, Hon. CY Ibeabuchi, Mr. John Chinedu Mbanaso, and Hon. Stephen Ameh were also in attendance, adding to the star-studded guest list.
Earlier in the day, a public lecture was held as part of the week-long celebration, showcasing Amaechi’s impact on Nigerian society. The evening event was a testament to Amaechi’s enduring legacy, with guests celebrating his life and achievements. The cake-cutting ceremony was a highlight of the evening, with Amaechi beaming with joy as he blew out the candles surrounded by loved ones and well-wishers.
The entertainment segment was electrifying and full of laughter as Dakuku Peterside and others mimicked Amaechi’s style of speech and reactions in different situations. A live performance by the legendary musician, Tuface Idibia, was electrifying and prompted many guests to join him on stage. Comedians also took to the stage, bringing laughter and joy to the packed hall.
The culinary experience was not left out, as choice meals and drinks were served to the delight of the guests. Unique souvenirs were also given out, serving as a reminder of the special occasion.
Amaechi’s contributions to Nigerian politics were lauded by several dignitaries who extended birthday wishes to him. President Bola Tinubu had earlier, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, praised Amaechi’s dedication to public service, highlighting his notable achievements as Rivers Speaker, two-term Governor, and Minister of Transportation.
“President Tinubu prays for more years and God’s grace for the former minister and wishes him well in his political career,” the statement read.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari also sent a goodwill message, describing Amaechi as a “golden fish” and an asset to his administration. The Rivers State APC faction, led by Emeka Beke, also presented their congratulations, stating that his worth as a true political leader was evident even when out of office. They appreciated Nigerians for recognizing Amaechi’s values, including equality, fair distribution of resources, and the fight against poverty.
Amaechi, in a special message, expressed gratitude to all who attended the celebration and those who sent goodwill messages. He dedicated his birthday to continued prayers for Nigeria and its people, hoping for a brighter future for the country.
The 60th birthday celebration of Rotimi Amaechi was indeed a memorable occasion that showcased the politician’s impact and popularity on Nigerian society and the affection he enjoys from his peers, associates, community, and the public.
