The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has responded to a video circulating on social media that shows a shooting incident involving its operatives. In a statement released on June 3, 2025, the NCS clarified that the incident occurred on February 17, 2019, at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State.
According to the Service, the incident was thoroughly investigated, and appropriate sanctions were applied, including the dismissal of officers found culpable. The NCS emphasized that it is a statutory government agency guided by rules of engagement and will not condone any misconduct from its personnel.
The Service urged citizens to avoid spreading misleading content and instead seek accurate information through official channels. The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to delivering professional, accountable service while upholding the principles of integrity and respect for human dignity.
The statement was signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
