The Police Service Commission (PSC) has taken a significant step towards ensuring a credible and transparent recruitment process for cadets and constables into the Nigeria Police Force. According to a press release by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd mni), led a management delegation to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in Abuja today, seeking partnership and cooperation in the upcoming recruitment exercise.
The PSC is concluding arrangements for the recruitment of cadets and constables into the Nigeria Police Force for the year 2025, with a target of 30,000 constables as approved by the President. DIG Argungu expressed the commission’s commitment to ensuring that only credible Nigerians are recruited into the force.
“We are here to fortify the Commission in its recruitment exercises. We need to know who we are recruiting, and we want to partner with you to make it a success,” Argungu stated during the visit. He lamented the commission’s inability to access the Nigeria Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database, which would facilitate the recruitment process.
The PSC Chairman emphasized the importance of accurate and protected data in the recruitment process, noting that “data rules the world.” He, therefore, pleaded with the NDPC National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, to intervene and ensure the PSC’s access to the NIMC database.
Dr. Olatunji promised to intervene and facilitate the PSC’s access to the database. He also pledged to train PSC staff on data protection to ensure a reliable and credible recruitment exercise. “We will work together to ensure that the recruitment exercise is data-driven and credible,” he assured.
Both organizations have agreed to set up a joint committee to work on data protection, in line with international best practices. The partnership aims to ensure a transparent and credible recruitment process, aligning with the PSC’s constitutional mandate to recruit Nigerians into the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC’s initiative is expected to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the recruitment process, ultimately leading to the selection of the most qualified candidates for the Nigeria Police Force.
