The Abuja International Conference Centre was renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in a ceremony held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. President Tinubu inaugurated the newly renovated facility, which was built in 1991 and had suffered years of neglect.
The renovation, carried out by Julius Berger, was completed within eight months, with a budget of N39 billion. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike attributed the project’s success to President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the centre now meets international standards.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu praised Wike for his transformational leadership, urging him to ignore critics and continue delivering quality work. Wike, in turn, announced that ministries and government agencies would be required to pay for using the conference centre to ensure its proper maintenance.
The renovated centre is expected to host high-level national and international events, solidifying Nigeria’s position on the global stage. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senators Ngwu, Nwaebonyi, Jarigbe, Aduda and other government officials.
The inauguration marks another milestone in Abuja’s development, with improved infrastructure and facilities set to enhance the city’s appeal to investors, tourists, and businesses.
With its new name, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre is poised to become a hub for international conferences, summits, and events, showcasing Nigeria’s capabilities and potential to the world.
