The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned a cutting-edge ICT Park at the University of Ibadan (UI), marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. The facility is designed to support innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
According to Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, the ICT Park is part of a broader initiative to promote innovation and strengthen research capacity across the country. “This is a major milestone in our digital transformation journey,” Maida said.
The ICT Park features a range of state-of-the-art facilities, including a 100-seat main hall, five ICT hub halls, collaborative workspaces, and high-capacity computing infrastructure with incubation centers. Engr. Abraham Osadami, Head of Technical Standards at NCC, described the facility as a “one-stop hub for innovation” that will nurture homegrown digital solutions and support emerging technologies.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, commended the NCC for the initiative, saying it would help bridge the digital divide, transform teaching and learning, and foster collaborative efforts to tackle global challenges. “This investment is not just in UI—it is in Nigeria’s future,” he emphasized.
The Executive Director of ICT at the university, Mrs. Abiodun Alao, thanked the NCC for its numerous interventions, which have significantly enhanced digital capacity, learning infrastructure, and the institution’s international competitiveness.
