Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Almustapha, the Honorable Member representing Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency of Sokoto State and Chairman, House Committee on Alternative Education, has reaffirmed the fact that the National Assembly plans to make it a tradition for the President to jointly sit with federal lawmakers on June 12 to address the nation to mark Democracy Day celebration.
Earlier, in a press release commemorating Nigeria’s 25 years of democracy, Hon. Almustapha congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day. He expressed hope, positivity, and dedication to democratic principles, highlighting democracy’s role in guiding the nation toward progress, inclusivity, and development. He saluted heroes and heroines of democracy and appreciated the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for his developmental strides. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrenching democratic tenets in the country.
Later, in an exclusive parley with a few select newsmen in his office after Mr. President’s departure, Hon. Almustapha emphasized that the joint sitting would help strengthen the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government. He praised the collective sacrifices of heroes and heroines who helped actualize democratic governance.
As an experienced two-term elected member of the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Almustapha firmly believes that the proposal seeks to promote inter-branch collaboration and reinforce democratic values.
In a separate interview same day, the Honorable Member representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency ll, Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo lauded President Tinubu’s administration for its efforts in improving healthcare delivery, infrastructure, and the removal of fuel subsidy, which has made premium motor spirit (PMS) easily available. He stated while fielding questions from newsmen, “for example, unlike in the last 7 years where there used to be long queues stretching for days, now citizens can access fuel without such hassles”. The lawmaker further highlighted the absence of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strikes since the administration took office, enabling students to study without hiccups as well as easy access to National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) loans within 72 hours to pay their school fees and cater to other basic needs.
