The recent massacre in Yelwata, Benue State, has sparked outrage and disappointment over President’s inability to visit the affected area due to bad roads. While I don’t advocate for unnecessary risks, I believe leaders must prioritize their presence and empathy in times of crisis.
The President’s absence raises questions about the government’s commitment to its citizens. If the Commander-in-Chief cannot navigate the roads, what hope is there for ordinary Nigerians? Leadership demands sacrifice, not excuses.
Alternative solutions, such as helicopters, could have been explored to facilitate the President’s visit. The people of Benue needed empathy and presence, not protocol or explanations.
Institutional neglect has led to this point. A New Nigeria requires leaders who take responsibility, make sacrifices, and show courage. Excuses will not build a better nation; only true leadership can.
