Meet Charles Emmamuzou Usie, a visionary leader and strategist dedicated to advancing the rights of girls and promoting gender equality. As the Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, Charles has spent over two decades working in civil society and international development, driven by a profound belief that every person, especially girls, deserves a decent and fulfilling life.

With a strong background in humanitarian response, policy development, and partnership management, Charles has consistently prioritized gender equality and inclusion in his work. His experience spans various organizations, including Christian Aid, UNICEF, ActionAid, and JDPC, where he helped shape policies and responses to pressing challenges such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, climate change, and humanitarian crises.

What sets Charles apart is his commitment to amplifying the voices of girls, influencing policy in their favor, and mobilizing resources to give them real choices. Through mentoring, donor engagement, and inclusive programming, Charles works tirelessly to create opportunities for girls to learn, lead, decide, and thrive.

A lifelong learner, Charles holds a Master’s degree from the University of Sussex and is currently pursuing doctoral research in Environmental Resource Management. He also holds additional qualifications from institutions in Sweden, the US, and Nigeria.
